Imaging & Labs

Imaging clinics, diagnostic labs, and the referrers who use them

The queue does not start at the scanner, it starts at a fax tray. Requisitions get structured on arrival and recommended follow-ups get tracked to an outcome, because a loop nobody closes is the quietest risk in imaging.

Where the week actually goes

Four things an imaging clinic or lab loses hours to. Not a feature list: these are the places the same work gets done twice.

  • 01

    Requisition intake and triage

  • 02

    Report turnaround

  • 03

    Prior study retrieval

  • 04

    Referrer follow-up and results delivery

All industries

Each one takes the workflow as it runs today and works it end to end. Every one is labelled a concept, and every number in them is either sourced or marked a design target.

The Fax Machine Is the Bottleneck: Turning Requisitions Into Booked, Protocolled Studies

An imaging clinic's queue does not start at the scanner, it starts at a fax tray full of handwritten requisitions that have to be read, protocolled and matched against prior studies. This is the transformation that structures the requisition on arrival and leaves the protocol decision with a radiologist.

The Finding Nobody Followed Up: Closing the Loop Between a Report and a Referrer

An imaging clinic issues a report recommending a six-month follow-up and then has no way of knowing whether it ever happened. This is the transformation that tracks recommended follow-ups to a confirmed outcome, and escalates to a person when the loop stays open.

How it starts here

Most practices start at stage one or two, because that is where the risk is cheapest to remove. You can stop after any of them, and the first slice is a fixed fee.

Your practice is the custodian. Under PHIPA the practice holds the personal health information and the responsibility for it. The agreement covering this work names Yantrax Labs as an agent of the practice under section 17, the privacy impact assessment is finished before anything touches a live chart, and every access to a record is logged and auditable. How the roles work.

Will it work with your system? Your software vendor sets the ceiling, not the studio you hire, and the four systems these practices run differ by who is allowed to build at all. What each one actually allows.

Questions an imaging clinic or lab asks first

What can AI do in an imaging clinic or lab?

The queue does not start at the scanner, it starts at a fax tray of handwritten requisitions that have to be read, protocolled and matched against prior studies. Requisitions get structured on arrival, priors are found in PACS, and the study arrives at a radiologist ready to protocol. Report turnaround, prior study retrieval, and referrer follow-up are the other three places the hours go.

Does AI read the images or make the diagnosis?

No. This is workflow around the study, not interpretation of it. The requisition gets structured, the priors get found, the booking gets made and the follow-up gets tracked. The protocol decision stays with a radiologist and the report is the radiologist. Diagnostic image interpretation is a regulated device question and a different business from this one.

What about follow-ups that never happen?

A report recommending a six-month follow-up and no way of knowing whether it happened is one of the quietest risks in imaging, because nothing anywhere reports it as a failure. Recommended follow-ups get tracked to a confirmed outcome, and when the loop stays open past its window it escalates to a person rather than expiring silently in a worklist.

Will it work with our RIS and PACS?

The work is designed around the RIS and PACS you run, including free-text requisition fields and priors searched by name and date, and both stay the source of truth. Nothing is migrated. The fax line usually stays too, because it is what referrers use, and structuring what arrives on it is cheaper and faster than persuading every referrer to change.

Before anything touches a chart

  • Canadian data residency

Records and processing stay in Canada.

  • Privacy impact assessment first

Completed before any patient record is used.

  • PHIPA s.17 agent agreement

    Written into the service agreement.

  • Zero data retention

Nothing is stored after processing or used to train models.

  • An audit log on every access

Every access to a record is logged.

  • A clinician approves

Nothing enters a chart without review.

These are commitments in every engagement, not badges on a wall. We are a studio, not a certified platform, so we will not show you a logo we have not earned. What we can put in writing is how the work is built, where your records live, who is accountable for it, and what goes in the contract before a single patient record is touched.
