Will it work with our system?

Your vendor sets the ceiling, not the studio you hire

Four systems that independent practices actually run, and what each one lets anyone build on top of it. Read from the vendor's own developer documentation rather than from their sales page, because no vendor describes its own gate as a gate.

What the research found

These four do not differ by how good their APIs are. They differ by who is allowed to ask. One needs the vendor's approval before anything starts. One hands the key to the clinic. One needs a signed commercial agreement on the critical path. And one depends on which fork of itself the clinic happens to be running.

That difference decides the shape of an engagement long before any requirement does, which is why it belongs at scoping rather than at build.

The systems

  • Jane

Jane Software Inc. Jane decides, not you

Commonly run by multidisciplinary clinics, physiotherapy clinics, mental health practices

The Jane Developer Platform is an approval-gated partner program. An extension is registered with Jane before it can call anything, and Jane issues the client credentials and the scopes. Practitioners then authorise it themselves through OAuth 2.0 with PKCE, which Jane requires rather than suggests, and access tokens last five minutes.

    What that means for you

The best-designed access model of the four, and the least available on demand. A clinic cannot commission a Jane integration the way it commissions a website: the studio has to be an approved partner first, and each practitioner consents to each scope individually. That last part is a feature in a multidisciplinary clinic, where practitioners are separate custodians and consent genuinely differs between them.

  • Juvonno

Juvonno (Global Office) The clinic holds the key

Commonly run by multidisciplinary clinics, physiotherapy clinics

Two doors, and they are easy to confuse. Juvonno asks developers to introduce themselves through a form on its developer page, describing the integration and who it is for. The key itself, though, is the clinic's: the API reference that page links to has the clinic generate an API key inside its own Juvonno profile, and requests then go to the clinic's own tenant address with that key appended.

    What that means for you

The vendor wants to be told, but it is the clinic that grants the access. That is a materially different position from a partner program, and it puts the section 17 agreement to real work rather than paperwork, because the clinic is the one handing over the means to reach personal health information. One engineering consequence: the key travels as a query parameter rather than a bearer token, and query strings turn up in server logs and proxy records, so anything built on it keeps that key server-side and rotates it.

  • Accuro

QHR Technologies A signed agreement first

Commonly run by family practice, multidisciplinary clinics

A REST API behind a commercial agreement. QHR states plainly that "an agreement is required in order to gain access to the Accuro API", and the process starts by emailing them with the company and a description of the product, after which QHR discusses terms.

    What that means for you

Budget for the contract, not just the build. This is the largest single-platform EMR in Canada, so it is often the answer for a family practice, and the agreement sits on the critical path before a line of code is useful. It is worth starting that conversation at scoping rather than at build.

  • OSCAR

Open source, plus commercial variants Depends which OSCAR you run

    Commonly run by family practice

OSCAR began at McMaster and is open source, which sounds like the easiest of the four and is the most conditional. It exists as several variants, including OscarPro, Juno, Avaros and OpenOSP, and the access, terms and process differ between them. Which variant the clinic runs, and which service provider hosts it, decides what is available.

    What that means for you

The first question is not what can be built, it is which OSCAR this is and who hosts it. That answer changes the work more than any requirement will. Being open source does not mean a hosted clinic instance is open to you: the service provider still controls access.

And one layer above all four

Reaching Ontario's provincial services, OLIS for lab results, the Health Report Manager, and eConsult, is not an integration. An EMR has to be OntarioMD-certified to subscribe to them, and third parties work through an Interface Owner model where the interface is specified, tested and then authorised for EMR vendors to implement.

So "we will pull the labs in automatically" is a certification programme rather than a requirement. It is worth knowing which side of that line a request falls on before it is quoted.

What this page is not

  • It is not a list of integrations that have been built. No production integration exists with any of these yet, and this page would say so on the system if one did.

  • It is desk research on published documentation, read on August 29, 2026. Vendors change their access models, so anything older than a year fails this site's own build rather than sitting here quietly going stale.

  • It is not your contract. What a clinic may authorise depends on the agreement it signed with its own vendor, and that agreement governs over anything written here.

  • It is not exhaustive. If the system you run is not on this list, that is a question worth asking rather than a no.

Running something that is not on this list?

Send the name of your practice management system. The answer comes back as what its documentation actually allows, which is sometimes a no, and that is worth knowing before anyone quotes you.

The founder is on every engagement. Specialists join for the stage that needs them, never an account manager.
